General Tactical Vehicles, a joint venture of General Dynamics Land Systems and AM General, has delivered seven joint light tactical vehicles (JLTVs) to the US Army for technology development (TD) phase testing.
During the 12 months of testing, the US Army and the US Marine Corps will test and evaluate the vehicles’ efficiency and operational capabilities.
Tests will be carried out at Aberdeen Proving Grounds, in Aberdeen, Maryland, and Yuma Proving Grounds in Yuma, Arizona.
The JLTV features an armoured crew capsule with a V-shaped hull for protection against IEDs and state-of-the-art C4 architecture flexible enough to adopt future force technology capabilities.
The high-performance vehicle provides extreme off-road mobility and can be deployed by other large military vehicles and transport aircraft.
LTC Wolfgang Petermann, JLTV product manager for the US Army, said the TD phase provided an accurate assessment of the vehicles’ technical and performance capabilities, and the risks associated with entering the engineering and manufacturing development phase.
