Israeli aerospace and defence company Elbit Systems has received a contract to deliver a modernisation solution for an undisclosed Latin American army.
The contract has an estimated value of $65m and is valid for a period of 2.5 years.
It will involve Elbit Systems providing its first fully networked mechanised brigade solution as part of an army-wide modernisation initiative of the unnamed armed force.
The digitally networked, mechanised brigade solution includes a 6×6 armoured fighting vehicle developed by Paramount and Shaldot’s 4X4 vehicles, which will be armed with an Elbit Systems’ E-LynXTM software-defined radio (SDR) mobile network solution.
Elbit Systems said the E-LynX family of mobile SDR solutions will address various complex communications requirements of the forces on the battlefield.
The operationally flexible solution comes in multiple configurations and is combat-proven.

By GlobalDataApart from the two land vehicles, the brigade will consist of Magni mini-vertical take-off and landing (VTOL) uncrewed aerial systems and Elbit Systems’ battle management suite (BMS) applications.
The BMS will be a virtual add-on feature for the combat vehicle-mounted sensor and weapon system, which is responsible for managing battle teams.
Elbit Systems C4I and cyber general manager Haim Delmar said: “We witness a growing recognition by armed forces of the necessity of acquiring the capability to conduct interoperable operations.
“This contract award further validates the leading position we hold in the growing area of combat networked warfare.”
Elbit Systems is involved with defence, homeland security and commercial programmes in the areas of aerospace, land and naval systems, command, control, communications, computers, intelligence surveillance and reconnaissance.
Earlier this year, the company signed a memorandum of understanding with Rheinmetall Canada to bid for the Canadian Joint Fire Modernisation (JFM) programme.
The JFM project aims to enable the instant near real-time sharing of a common operating picture (COP) regarding targets, locations and command and control activities through a digital network.
