The US Army has awarded a contract to Harris Corporation to supply next-generation military communications satellite terminals.
Under the $55m contract, Harris will supply large fixed terminals with high-altitude electromagnetic pulse protection, and transportable terminals of standard and hardened configurations.
The company will also develop a small fixed terminal, a large fixed radome, an enhanced interactive electronic technical manual and training simulation hardware under different contract options.
The advanced satellite terminals will support high-priority military communications and missile defence systems that enable the warfighter to communicate back to the main base or command, with the ability to access remote resources.
The delivery of satellite terminals is part of the US Army’s $600m modernisation of enterprise terminals (MET) programme.
Harris has received MET orders worth up to $153m since the programme began in April 2009.
