The US Defense Security Cooperation Agency (DSCA) has notified Congress of a potential foreign military sale (FMS) of M1A2K tank operational and training ammunition to Kuwait. 

Worth over $250m, the potential sale was approved by the US State Department.

The sale follows a request by the Government of Kuwait to procure cartridge M80 Ball/M62 Tracer 7.62mm 4/1 linked, cartridge MK211 4 Armor Piercing Incendiary (APIT) .50 calibre 4/1 linked, and cartridge M903/M962 Saboted Light Armor Penetrator-Tracer (SLAP-T) .50 calibre 4/1 linked.

Kuwait also placed an order for grenades, screening smoke, munitions, support and test equipment, and integration and test support.

The sale package will also include US Government and contractor engineering, and technical and logistics support services.

The potential sale of the training ammunition will enable Kuwait to enhance the deployment of its M1A2 Abrams main battle tank and also help in upgrading the country’s tank fleet.

In a statement, the DSCA said the proposed sale of ammunition to Kuwait aligns with the US’ foreign policy and national security goals.

General Dynamics will serve as the principal contractor to facilitate the FMS. 

In August this year, the State Department approved a potential FMS of missile systems and related equipment to the United Arab Emirates and Saudi Arabia.
