German arms manufacturer Rheinmetall and UVision have jointly secured their first order to provide Hero loitering munitions to a Nato military force in Europe.
As part of the contract, the companies will deliver Hero-30 combat and training munitions, simulators, training courses, and logistics equipment, as well as support, to a special forces formation.
Delivery of the order is planned for 2023.
According to Rheinmetall, the contract is valued in the single-digit, million-euro range. Despite this, it did not disclose other details, including the number of munitions ordered, subject to the customer’s secrecy clauses.
The company also expects additional orders from the military force as the customer is likely to procure next-in-series loitering munitions of the Hero family in the future.
Under a strategic partnership signed in October 2021, UVision Air and Rheinmetall’s Italian subsidiary RWM Italia manufacture and distribute Hero loitering munitions across Europe.

By GlobalDataThe collaboration seeks to meet the demand for remote-controlled precision ammunition.
Remote-controlled loitering munitions support front-line forces with intelligence gathering, target acquisition capabilities, and firepower.
The munitions can be deployed for national, allied defence, and peacekeeping operations.
UVision’s Hero systems offer high-precision strike capabilities to reduce the risk of collateral damage.
The operationally proven munitions have served various armed forces including the US Marine Corps.
Equipped with a single or multi-canister launcher, a loitering munition and communication technology, the loitering munition system can attack ground targets beyond the line of sight.
The high-resolution, electro-optical sensors and infra-red cameras allow the operator to track and engage low-signature targets.
The Hero-30, the smallest system in the UVision family of smart loitering systems, is a portable munition suitable for anti-personnel missions.
