Last month, Lithuanian citizens raised over €6m to procure the Bayraktar TB2 drone for Ukraine. For this, Lithuania had signed a pact with Turkey to buy the UAV.
Inspired by the Lithuanians’ charitable gesture, Turkish drone manufacturer Baykar decided to deliver the advanced version of the Bayraktar drone to Lithuania free of charge.
Of the €5.9m donation, the Lithuanian Ministry of National Defence spent €1.5m to procure missiles, which arrived at the air base in Šiauliai.
In June this year, Ukrainian citizens reportedly raised $20.11m to help the country purchase three Bayraktar TB2 drones.
Following this, Baykar announced that it would give the UAVs to the Ukrainian forces free of charge.
A fundraiser for the drones to be supplied to Ukraine was also initiated in Poland.
According to Ukrainian Defence Minister Oleksiy Reznikov, the country has received over 50 Bayraktar TB2 drones since 24 February.
Further UAVs are expected to be shipped to the war-torn country in the coming months.
