The move was announced by Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau during a visit to the Ukrainian capital of Kyiv.

During the visit, Prime Minister Trudeau met Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy and participated in the re-opening ceremony of the Canadian Embassy in Ukraine.

According to a government statement, the new C$50m ($38.62m) military aid package will include drone cameras, C$15m worth of high-resolution satellite imagery, ammunition for M777 howitzers, and small arms and related ammunition.

The assistance builds on recent deliveries that included artillery, ammunition, and civilian-pattern light armoured vehicles.

Prime Minister Trudeau also announced humanitarian and economic support for Ukraine.

He said: “I would like to thank President Zelenskyy for hosting this visit, but also more importantly, for his leadership. Together with Ukrainians, President Zelenskyy is defending the values at the very heart of democracies.

“His courage and the courage of Ukrainians is inspiring, and we will continue to do everything we can to make sure Ukraine gets the support it needs.”

The UK and the US have also announced new military support packages for Ukraine.

The UK will send £1.3bn worth of new military aid that will double its previous spending commitments to Ukraine, reported Reuters.

The US Department of Defense (DoD) authorised a presidential drawdown of security assistance up to an additional $150m for the embattled country.

The package will include artillery, AN/TPQ-36 counter-artillery radars, electronic jamming equipment, and other spare parts.

Last week, Finland announced that it will send additional military aid to Ukraine.
