The Indian Army will begin DNA profiling of its soldiers to facilitate identification of bodies during an operation, attack or mishap, Army Hospital Research and Referral Commandant Lieutenant General Naresh Kumar has said.
“We will begin DNA profiling of soldiers from this year as the profiling centre and data bank are almost ready,” he added.

The DNA profiling centre will collect blood samples of troops and store them in a DNA data bank, which will help in identifying bodies during wartime.
The centre will help the military to return the remains of victims to their families, according to the Press Trust of India.
The army also has plans to include the profiling for fresh recruits, but will first try with a sample population in Pune.
