The Nato-member has sent T-72 tanks and BVP-1 infantry fighting vehicles to Ukraine, Reuters reported, quoting a Czech defence source. The source declined to provide further details due to security reasons.

The military aid was first reported by public broadcaster Czech Television. It shared footage of a train carrying five tanks and five fighting vehicles.

Czech Minister of Defence Jana Cernochova told parliament that the country is supplying weaponry to Ukraine.

She was quoted by the news agency as saying: “I will only assure you that the Czech Republic […] is helping Ukraine as much as it can, and will continue to help by [supplying] military equipment, both light and heavy.”

Ukraine has been receiving military aid from several nations and Nato members.

Since the conflict began, the Czech Republic has sent nearly $45m worth of military aid to the country.

Germany recently committed to sending several dozen infantry fighting vehicles (IFVs) to Ukraine.

Nato allies are also scheduled to discuss the shipment of additional military equipment in a meeting later this week.

The US is also supplying life-saving gear that can be used in case of chemical and biological weapon deployment, following a request from Ukraine.

A Biden administration official told Reuters that the gear was being delivered on a rolling basis.

Earlier this month, the US announced an additional $300m worth of military aid for the Ukrainian forces.
