This comes weeks after the US President signed an order to transfer $800bn of weaponry to Ukraine.

The new package will include laser-guided rocket systems, uncrewed aerial systems, counter-uncrewed aerial systems, non-standard machine guns, armoured high mobility multipurpose wheeled vehicles, and ammunition.

The US will also provide night vision devices, thermal imagery systems, communications systems, and commercial satellite imagery services, as well as medical supplies and spare parts.

According to a statement, the US Department of Defense (DoD) has already notified the US Congress regarding the new aid.

The statement said: “Unlike Presidential Drawdown, USAI is an authority under which the US procures capabilities from industry, rather than delivering equipment that is drawn down from DoD stocks. This announcement represents the beginning of a contracting process to provide new capabilities to Ukraine’s Armed Forces.”

With the latest package, the US has now committed more than $1.6bn in security assistance for Ukraine since the Russian invasion. The statement added that the US will continue to work with other allied countries to deliver additional capabilities to the war-torn country.

Last week, the UK and its other allies committed to expanding military support for Ukraine. The expanded military package is expected to include air and coastal defence systems, artillery capabilities, and armoured vehicles, among others.

Reuters reported that Russian President Vladimir Putin has signed a decree to conscript 134,500 people into the army. Despite this, Russian Defence Minister Sergei Shoigu claimed that the new recruits will not be sent to any ‘hot spots’.
