The Defense Security Cooperation Agency has notified US Congress of a potential sale of a range of radios and communication equipment, as well as associated equipment, to Iraq.
Under the estimated $67m foreign military sale, Iraq has requested for 750 50W vehicular multiband handheld radio systems, 900 5W multiband handheld radio systems and 50 50W multiband handheld base station radio systems.
The proposed sale also includes 50 20W high-frequency (HF) base station radio systems, 100 5W secure personal role handheld radio systems and other related logistics support.
The radios and communications equipment will provide Iraq with advance updated frequency-hopping and digital data capabilities to take control of the missions currently accomplished by US and coalition forces.
The Harris Corporation will be the prime contractor.
