Northrop Grumman has successfully demonstrated its STARLite radar on a US Army Persistent Threat Detection System (PTDS) at Yuma Proving Ground in Arizona, US.
During the demonstration, the STARLite system, designated as AN/ZPY-1 radar, provided improved battlefield situational awareness to the warfighter by detecting vehicles and individuals in the area of interest.
STARLite is a small, lightweight radar equipped with an electro-optical infrared camera and is used to support tactical operations, optimise force manoeuvre and engagement for mission success.
The radar has been developed based on Northrop’s proven tactical endurance synthetic aperture radar and the tactical unmanned aerial vehicle radar.
The US Army’s PTDS is an aerostat surveillance platform that aids in the defence of ground troops.
