Textron Systems and Rheinmetall Canada have agreed to a teaming arrangement to pursue the Canadian Army tactical armoured patrol vehicle (TAPV) programme.
According to the teaming arrangement, Textron would provide programme and configuration management, coordinate Canadian subcontractors’ vehicle integration activities, long-term product support, and implement the industrial regional benefits programme.
Rheinmetall would perform multiple integration functions and final vehicle assembly to include the remote weapons station and government furnished equipment, and long-term system support.
Textron’s proposed TAPV aims to protect troops from roadside bombs and blasts while providing large power reserves for future electronics enhancements to deliver survivability, mobility, versatility and lethality to the user.
The proposed vehicle has been extensively tested to confirm ballistic, blast, mobility and reliability levels that meet or exceed Canadian Forces requirements.
The Canadian Department of National Defence expects to award a contract to procure up to 500 next-generation wheeled combat vehicles with an option for up to 100 more by early 2012.
