The Brazilian Army and Embraer have launched the newest addition to the Saber family of radars during an event at the defence technology firm’s Campinas unit.
The SABER M200 VIGILANTE radar was developed to support the country’s anti-aircraft defence units.
The new ground-based radar will also enable Embraer to increase its product portfolio and export integrated defence units.
The radar aims to meet the Brazilian Armed Forces’ requirements in low-altitude surveillance missions for anti-aircraft defence.
It is developed by Embraer and the army technological centre, a military unit that is part of the Brazilian Army’s science, technology and innovation system.
According to the company, the newest SABER M200 VIGILANTE radar will enhance the ground force’s anti-aircraft artillery units.

By GlobalDataBrazilian Army Department of Science and Technology (DCT) head Army General Guido Amin Naves said: “We are proud to witness this event with Embraer.
“Over more than 15 years of joint work and the synergy between the Brazilian Army and Embraer has made it possible to achieve Brazilian autonomy in the development of technological capability of the native digital radars.
“The new radars are made with phased array technology, which will expand our troops’ capabilities, as well as maintaining the ongoing operation with the support of our defence industrial base (BID).”
The new radar will be combined into the family of Brazilian radars, which so far contains the SABER M60 radar and the SENTIR M20 radar. These radars are used for engaging in the search of air targets and monitoring ground targets, respectively.
Embraer Defense and Security president and CEO Jackson Schneider said: “At this event, we celebrate an important stage in our collaboration with the Brazilian Army.
“For the presentation of the first SABER M200 VIGILANTE radar, through Embraer’s engineering capabilities and complex project management processes, we were able to overcome several technological challenges alongside the army throughout its development.
“The adoption of the radar and the start of operations by the Land Force will be important for validating the solution-aiming future exports.”
