Australian Army pilots will receive Helimod helicopter simulator-based training from Boeing to fly Bell 206B-1 Kiowa helicopters under an army aviation training and training support (AATTS) contract.
The Helimod simulator, leased from Ryan Aerospace, provides affordable, accurate simulation and is reconfigurable for all types of helicopters.
The Kiowa is used by the Australian Army as a lead-in trainer to the Boeing CH-47D Chinook, Tiger armed reconnaissance helicopter and multirole helicopter 90.
Boeing Defence Australia senior manager of AATTS Mark Brownsey said that helicopter simulator training improves overall readiness and provides the army with technically proficient and mission-ready pilots.
The Bell 206B-1 Kiowa helicopter is expected to be delivered before the end of 2011.
Work under the AATTS contract will be provided until the introduction of Australian Defence Force’s Air 9000 phase 7 – helicopter aircrew training system (HATS) project.
