The US Army has awarded a contract to Harris for the supply of additional Falcon III AN/PRC-117G multiband manpack radios to support the modernisation of tactical networking capabilities.
Under the $66.3m contract, the company will supply the AN/PRC-117G radios, AN/VRC-114 vehicular amplifier adapters, spare radio kits, training and installation kits to the army.
The Falcon III AN/PRC-117G radio features a software-defined, upgradable voice and data platform that supports network-enabled missions such as convoy tracking, mission operations planning and medical evacuation (MEDEVAC).
The radio is the first US joint tactical radio system (JTRS) software communications architecture-certified, NSA type-1 certified wideband manpack radio system deployed by all branches of the US Department of Defense (DoD).
Harris RF Communications group president Dana Mehnert said, "The AN/PRC-117G delivers transformational voice and wideband networking capabilities to the soldier, including the first type-1 implementation of the JTRS soldier radio waveform."
The system and other Falcon III radios have also been adopted by US allies including the UK, Canada, Germany, Australia and other Nato countries.
