Electrical wiring harness systems provider Renvale has won a contract to supply CAN-Node electro-mechanical boxes for the UK Army’s new Boxer 8×8 armoured vehicles.
The £10m contract has been jointly awarded by Rheinmetall BAE Systems Land (RBSL) and Rheinmetall Landsysteme (RLS).
It has been awarded under the Mechanised Infantry Vehicle (MIV) programme, which will deliver around 500 Boxer vehicles for the British Army.
In 2019, a £2.3bn MIV contract was awarded to a joint venture between Rheinmetall and Krauss-Maffei Wegmann (KMW) Artec.
Renvale’s CAN-Node electro-mechanical boxes are designed to establish communication between Boxer vehicle’s electronic devices.
The company will be responsible for material sourcing, sub-assembly and inspection management of the completed boxes for the next ten years.

Renvale Group chief operating officer Anthony Moss said: “As an SME designing and manufacturing advanced electrical and electromechanical assemblies, we are excited to apply our advanced capabilities to other sectors and programmes as significant as Boxer.
“Working closely with our strategic partner, Ray Service, for support with supply chain and technology transfer, we have been on an exciting five-year journey to reach this position.
RBSL noted that the contract would generate 15 new positions, including 12 apprentices and an additional support team.
The contract, which is the latest in a set of MIV programme’s supplier contracts, also supports the UK manufacturing community.
Furthermore, it allows expansion and new investment in Renvale’s technology park spread across five acres.
In June this year, the UK MoD released more details on what variants of Boxer MIV it is acquiring and confirmed it is looking to increase the overall size of its Boxer fleet.
Boxer is a high-mobility, network-enabled armoured vehicle that can operate in high-intensity conflict, as well as relief and humanitarian operations.
The programme is managed by the European Armaments Agency, Organisation for Joint Armament Cooperation (OCCAR).
