The Canadian military has placed orders for 2,000 data recorders to equip its armoured vehicles to track the effects of bomb blasts in Afghanistan.
The data recorders are essentially a black box for ground vehicles that will help in studying the impact of blast waves on the acceleration and rotation of the vehicles.
The devices will fill the gap in information/data gathered during in-theatre incidents, while the details will be used by defence intelligence officials to come up with soldier safety initiatives.
The internal pressure caused from blasts during combat operations has lead to traumatic brain injuries and other internal organ damage among troops.
Canadian forces are currently involved in a three-year training mission in Afghanistan, according to thestar.com.
