The US Army in Europe and Africa (USAREUR-AF) has decided to keep six sites that were set to close in Germany and Belgium.
The sites were originally announced for closure during the US Department of Defense’s (DoD) European Infrastructure Consolidation in 2015. In the case of Coleman Barracks site, closure was announced in 2010.
The latest decision comes in the wake of growing requirements in the European theatre. During a reassessment, demand for facilities outgrew construction and renovation.
In a press statement, USAREUR-AF noted that the European Infrastructure Consolidation reversal process is governed by an established DoD process and is assessed frequently.
The sites being retained in Germany include Barton Barracks in Ansbach, Coleman Barracks in Mannheim, Pulaski Barracks in Kaiserslautern, Amelia Earhart Center in Wiesbaden and Weilimdorf Warehouse in Stuttgart.
Meanwhile, Daumerie Caserne in Benelux is a Belgian property.
