The UK Ministry of Defence and Turkey have signed a military cooperation treaty for increased collaboration between the armed forces of both nations.
The proposed agreement allows the dual armed forces to cooperate across a series of military activities and follows the terms of the UK-Turkey Strategic Partnership Agreement signed in July 2010.
Further details of the agreement have not been disclosed.
Turkey has supported the Afghanistan mission and has also contributed to the Nato-led operation in Libya.
The UK has accounted for 8% of Turkey’s military imports since 2000 and the nation is seen as a potential partner for the BAE Systems-led Global Combat Ship (GCS) programme.
