The US Department of Defense (DoD) is set to pursue long-term Joint Counter-Small Unmanned Aircraft Systems (C-sUAS) solutions from all services perspective.
The increase in the number and types of drones has posed new challenges in determining which is a friendly or enemy drone.
The department is currently working for synchronised solutions that are capable of detecting, tracking, identifying and defeating the sUAS hazards and threats.
To stress the need for a new approach for the C-sUAS efforts, the US DoD conducted an Industry Open House on 30 October.
In a pre-recorded message, US Army vice chief of staff general Joseph Martin said: “We’ve got to be agile as the adversary changes his technology, his tactics, his techniques, and his procedures.
“To get after this enterprise effort, we’ve got to work closely together as a team of teams across the Joint force.”

Hypersonics Directed Energy, Space and Rapid Acquisition director lieutenant general L Neil Thurgood said: “The speed at which this is happening is dramatic.
“That speed is focused, that speed is resourced, and that speed will bring the results we need.”
In August last year, US Army’s C-sUAS Office (JCO) chose CACI International’s CORIAN system to safeguard Department of Defense (DoD) personnel and facilities against threats posed by unmanned aircraft systems or drones.
