General Dynamics C4 Systems (GDC4S) has been awarded a contract for delivery of additional Warfighter Information Network-Tactical (WIN-T) Increment 2 (Inc 2) systems to the US Army, as part of the Capability Set 13 deployment programme.
The $346m contract was awarded following authorisation from the US Department of Defense (DoD) to continue systems deployment and cover supplies to additional brigade combat teams (BCTs) and division headquarters units.
General Dynamics C4 Systems president Chris Marzilli said the WIN-T Increment 2 had demonstrated the value of high-speed communications for commanders requiring robust, reliable communications and situational awareness in the battlefield.
"Commanders can now make faster, more informed decisions using real-time information while moving with their soldiers, rather than being tethered to command posts," Marzilli added.
The new order follows a $295.8m contract received in March 2011 for supply of systems to additional five BCTs, bringing the total number of teams receiving WIN-T Inc2s to eight.
WIN-T Increment 2 systems are procured by army under a potential three-year $2.8bn deal awarded to GD4CS in 2010 to help offer on-the-move connectivity to commanders, besides expanding the availability of tactical broadband communications to lower echelon troops.

By GlobalDataThe system has already completed initial operational test and evaluation (IOT&E) during the army’s Network Integration Evaluation (NIE) 12.2 exercise at White Sands Missile Range in New Mexico in May-June 2012, providing the company with an opportunity to continue enhancing its overall performance and effectiveness.
WIN-T Increment 2 production is conducted at the company’s facility in Taunton, Massachusetts, and preliminary deployment as key component of Capability Set 13 already started at Fort Drum in New York and Fort Polk in Louisiana, US, with training of two brigades from 10th Mountain Division using previous systems.
Available in three increments, WIN-T is the army’s mobile battlefield network system providing soldiers with mission critical voice, video and data to improve battlefield awareness.
