Sagem has received a contract from the Nato Support Agency (NSPA) for delivery of additional JIM long-range (LR) multifunction infrared (IR) binoculars to the Danish Ministry of Defence (MoD).
Under the terms of the undisclosed contract and as part of Denmark’s front-line troops’ modernisation programme, Sagem will supply 126 binoculars to the Danish Armed Forces.
The systems will feature an IR and visible image fusion function that facilitates all-weather vision, as well as the ability to record images and videos using a USB port, and see-through camouflage during the daytime.
JIM LR units were previously selected by the armed forces due to its lightweight and an ergonomic design, as well as enhanced detection, identification and target acquisition capabilities, following a series of comparative field tests.
The JIM LR is a multifunction cooled IR binocular device, designed to help military personnel in long-range target detection and acquisition and intelligence-gathering missions during day and night in the battlefield.
They feature day/thermal (3-5µm) vision, range finder, magnetic compass, global positioning system (GPS), a laser pointer, interface cables, a tripod and portable monitor, as well as logistic container and remote operating system (ROS) in a single portable optronics package.
