The US Army has awarded a contract to General Dynamics C4 Systems (GDC4S) for low-rate initial production (LRIP) and delivery of a new lightweight secure radio for its Nett Warrior programme.
The contract has a maximum potential value of $11m if all options are exercised, and covers the LRIP and supply of 2,052 radios, as well as engineering support and related equipment.
From the GDC4S handheld manpack small (HMS) form fit line, the new radios weigh less than 2lb and have been designed to provide the Nett Warrior team with access to the government’s classified networks at either the secret or sensitive-but-unclassified level.
General Dynamics C4 Systems president Chris Marzilli said: "By providing a lighter, smaller radio capable of two levels of security, Nett Warrior soldiers will have increased agility and significantly improved access to classified mission-critical information."
The radios also facilitate highly mobile voice, video and data communications capabilities between troops in the battlefield by enabling direct access to the soldier radio waveform (SRW), wideband networking waveform (WNW) and mobile user objective system (MUOS) waveform.
General Dynamics serves as the prime contractor for the HMS programme, which also covers delivery of the individually-worn AN/PRC-154 Rifleman and AN/PRC-155 manpack radios.
