Saab Bofors Dynamics Switzerland (SBDS) has received two delivery contracts for the latest version of its mortar anti-personnel anti-material (MAPAM) systems to an undisclosed international customer.
With a combined value of Skr11.2m ($1.73m), the contracts cover development and initial supplies of several units of 60mm extended range (ER) MAPAM with proximity fuse and 81mm standard configuration MAPAMs.
Saab MAPAM area sales manager and product manager Kai Schlegel said the contracts represented a significant milestone for MAPAM, as both system types are new to the market.
"Now that SBDS has not only a new product with the 81mm, but is also able to provide different configurations e.g. extended range, for both calibres, a new market has been opened," Schlegel added.
Available in 60 mm and 81 mm calibres and optional fill, the MAPAM is an advanced mortar system designed to enhance the defence, mobility and safety of infantry soldiers in the battlefield.
Fully compatible with all in-service launchers and fuses, the system provides close combat deployment capabilities through enhanced attack capabilities in controlled area and clear separation of lethal, danger and safety-zones, while reducing inadvertent civilian damage and protecting troops.
