The French Army’s 2nd Equipment Regiment has taken delivery of an initial batch of 150 JIM Long Range 2 (LR) multifunction cooled infrared (IR) binoculars from Sagem.
The delivery follows successful acceptance testing conducted at the French defence procurement agency’s (DGA) test centres from February to June 2012.
Performance specifications of the binoculars were also verified during field trails.
A total of 1,175 binoculars were ordered by DGA from Sagem as part of the Jumelles Infrarouges Multifonction – Toute Arme de Nouvelle Generation (JIR TTA NG (1)) programme contract in December 2010.
Available in three variants, the JIM LR2 is a multifunction cooled IR binocular designed to help dismounted soldiers and frontline and command units in long-range target detection, acquisition and intelligence-gathering missions during day and night in the battlefield.
An upgraded version of the initial JIM LR binoculars, the JIM LR2 features improved detection performance, long-range pointer for fire support, 30% longer run time, as well as the ability to record images and videos.
