The Australian Government is deploying additional defence personnel to Victoria to support the state’s Covid-19 response efforts. The extra 1,000 Australian Defence Force (ADF) personnel will focus on areas such as contact tracing data management and analysis, support supply and logistics, testing in metro, regional/rural and tourist locations, assist in expanding Ambulance Victoria’s response capabilities and more. The deployment will continue over the next four weeks. The existing contingent of more than 400 personnel are expected to remain in the state up to 19 August.
The Ohio Air National Guard’s 178th Wing is supporting drive-thru Covid-19 nasal swab testing of the local community. The guard’s airmen have partnered with the staff of Centerpoint Health at the Community Building Institute in Middletown. They are working together with Ohio Army National Guard medics from the 174th Air Defense Artillery Brigade and the 285th Medical Company. Centerpoint Health personnel are in charge of facilitating the drive-thru testing and checking patients.
The US Navy has cancelled its premier aviation event in North America, the 2020 Naval Air Station (NAS) Oceana Air Show, due to Covid-19 pandemic. The annual air show was scheduled to be held from 19 to 20 September this year. NAS Oceana commanding officer captain John Hewitt said: “Unfortunately, the risks associated with large gatherings are too considerable to ensure absolute safety for our guests. While we won’t have the traditional show this year, we hope to still provide a unique experience virtually for our fans and our entire Hampton Roads community.”
