Harris has been contracted to supply an end-to-end tactical communications system for the pilot phase of the Brazilian Army’s Sistema Integrado de Monitoramento de Fronteiras (SISFRON) programme.
The contract was awarded by SAVIS Tecnologia e Sistemas, which along with another Embraer Defense and Security subsidiary OrbiSat Indústria, secured the Sisfron deal in August 2012.

Under the contract, Harris will deliver an advanced tactical communications system comprising radios and accessories from its Falcon III 7800 tactical radio family, including high-frequency, very-high-frequency, multiband, soldier personal radio and high-capacity line-of-sight radios, along with related software, and support services.
Scheduled to be installed in vehicles, shelters and operations centres, the radios will provide border security personnel with tactical voice, situational awareness and surveillance capabilities, while also delivering live video, tactical chat and situational awareness to the lowest echelons.
Harris RF Communications group president Dana Mehnert said the company’s solutions would offer unprecedented command and control capability to border security forces, besides enabling secure real-time communications across all levels.

By GlobalDataDesigned using the Software Communications Architecture (SCA), the Harris 7800 family of radios enable soldiers to transmit video clips, images, maps and other large data files at ten times the data rates of existing radios even in obstructed line-of-sight mission environments, including mountains and urban terrain.
Sisfron is a security programme featuring a network of surveillance radars, sensors, command and control communication systems, and unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) designed to gradually enhance protection along western borders of Brazil over the next decade.
Scheduled to be implemented in stages, the project will include surveillance and protection of 16,886km of land border, involving 11 neighbouring countries, ten states and 588 municipalities, which make up 27% of the nation’s territory.
The delivery schedule has not been disclosed by the company.
