US technology-focused defence contractor Parsons is supporting the rapid deployment of Battelle Critical Care Decontamination System (CCDS) in the US. The decontamination technology is designed to disinfect millions of N-95 masks and other personal protective equipment. Currently, a hydrogen peroxide mist is being used to decontaminate masks. According to Parsons, each CCDS unit is capable of disinfecting up to 80,000 masks a day. This is expected to allow masks to be reused up to 20 times.
The Australian Defence Force (ADF) and an Australian Medical Assistance Team (AUSMAT) have successfully completed Covid-19 support to Burnie’s North West Regional Hospital in North West Tasmania. This is the first time ADF has been deployed to operate a domestic hospital. ADF medical doctors, emergency nurses, a pharmacist, a radiographer, an environmental health officer and a small group of general support personnel provided essential health services to over 400 patients for more than two weeks.
