The Australian Government has launched the Deployable Force Infrastructure (DFI) project with an initial A$150m ($100m) funding.
Designated LAND 8140, the DFI project seeks to invest A$500m ($335m) in environmental and threat-appropriate expedient infrastructure.
Currently, the Australian Defence Force (ADF) and other expeditionary militaries depend on tent-based infrastructure or contractor delivered facilities to sustain operations in remote areas.
In the future, the ADF would be in need of quick access to several facilities such as command control computers and intelligence centres, briefing rooms, medical centres, accommodation, logistic facilities and workshops.
The DFI project will provide deployable force infrastructure solutions to support the ADF’s combat operations requirements or humanitarian assistance, disaster relief, peacekeeping and combat missions.
The first funding will be used to upgrade living conditions for deployed soldiers with deployable sanitation, water management and treatment, catering, power generation, and shelters.

By GlobalDataAustralian Defence Minister Linda Reynolds said: “While this modernised capability will be used on missions overseas, it will also enhance the support the ADF provides for humanitarian assistance and responding to natural disasters, including bushfire emergencies in Australia.”
Reynolds added that the capital allocated for DFI project will meet the operational needs of soldiers with adaptable, scalable, responsive and deployable infrastructure.
The LAND 8140 will open new partnership avenues with the Australian defence industry.
