Defence and security firm Saab has received a contract for the delivery of components for the Carl-Gustaf man-portable weapon system to an undisclosed customer.

The SEK114m ($17.25m) contract covers the supply of components for ammunition for the latest variant of the Carl-Gustaf system support weapon system.

Saab’s business area Dynamics Head Görgen Johansson said that Carl-Gustaf is a leading system and a key component of armed forces throughout the world.

"With each new model, the demand for the system increases in many strategic markets. The Carl-Gustaf system has been sold to over 40 countries," Johansson said.

"The Carl-Gustaf system has been sold to over 40 countries."

The multi-role, man-portable shoulder-fired weapon system offers several types of ammunition, which range from armour penetration and anti-personnel to ammunition for developed areas, in addition to special features such as smoke and illumination.

According to the defence and security firm, the weapon can be operated by a two-man crew, which also supports the gunnery and combat training objectives through the use of sub-calibre trainers, full-calibre practice rounds and simulators.
