The US Army has awarded a contract to Northrop Grumman to develop the next generation tactical radar antenna, which aims to deliver enhanced capabilities to the warfighter.
Northrop Grumman will build the Re-scalable Aperture for Precision Targeting Radar (RAPTR) using scalable, building-block architecture.
The small radar building blocks will enable scalability of the antenna to meet a range of mission and platform requirements.
RAPTR is expected to possess enhanced precision and range compared to the Northrop Grumman tactical radar family.
In addition to advanced surveillance and precision targeting capabilities, the radar will provide a greater level of situational understanding to warfighters.
The radar will be able to operate in multiple radar modes, including Synthetic Aperture Radar and Ground Moving Target Indicator, enabling a comprehensive operating picture of the battlefield.

In September 2015, the company was awarded a contract by the US Army to develop the Airborne Reconnaissance Low-Enhanced (ARL-E) Long-Range Radar.
The contract involved the development of a synthetic aperture radar (SAR) / ground moving target indicator (GMTI) system for the ARL-E DHC-8.
Northrop Grumman noted that its tactical radar family can provide surveillance and precision battlefield intelligence in all types of weather.
