Rheinmetall Defence Australia has selected seven local small businesses for two major projects to deliver military vehicles to the Australian Army.

Australian Defence Industry Ministry announced Cablex, Eylex, Tectonica Australia, ABI Coating Specialists, Bartlett, Supashock, and Varley as the seven companies that will partner Rheinmetall for the LAND 400 Phase 2 and LAND 121 Phase 5B projects.

The LAND 400 project pertains to the procurement of the next generation of armoured fighting vehicles for the Australian Army.

The LAND 121 Phase 5B project involves the delivery of heavy and medium logistics vehicles and modules.

Defence Industry Minister Melissa Price said: “This is an excellent example of how the big defence companies are working with local businesses on these large projects.”

The selection of the firms will further boost Rheinmetall’s network of local suppliers.

Cablex will provide vehicle systems and C4I cabling, while Eylex will supply crew communications equipment, including headsets.

Tectonica will deliver driver aids for night-time situational awareness.

ABI Coating Specialists is required to provide paint and finish services for Boxer vehicles.

These four companies will supply the respective equipment and services for the first 25 Boxer vehicles.

The remaining three firms will supply products such as tarpaulins, spare wheel carriage system, and modules for Rheinmetall MAN high-mobility logistics vehicles.

Rheinmetall submitted a bid for the Australian Army’s LAND 400 Phase 3 project in March this year.
