The US Army’s Programme Executive Office for Simulation, Training and Instrumentation (PEO STRI) has awarded an engineering change order to FAAC, Arotech’s training and simulation division.
Valued at $36m, the follow-on change order is for FAAC’s virtual clearance training suite (VCTS) programme. Of the total contract value, $20.4m is funded, with an additional $15.6m included in options.
Under the agreement, FAAC will reconfigure the previously contracted 28 training suites to meet the US Army’s current operational concept for route-clearance companies.
The order also includes options for continued contractor logistical support of the fielded systems.
Arotech Training and Simulation executive vice-president Kurt Flosky said: "It is important to train as you fight, because you fight as you have trained.
"This change proposal will utilise the inherent flexibility of the solution to ensure that the fielded VCTSs simulate the actual configuration of today’s route-clearance teams, as their mission and equipment continues to evolve.

By GlobalData"The fielded systems to date have been well received by the units and we are pleased to be able to continue our support of the VCTS programme and play a key role in maximising its effectiveness."
Capable of simulating a wide range of large and small technical devices, purpose-built mine-protected security, detection and clearing vehicles, the VCTS allows soldiers to learn the US Army’s ever-evolving tactics and techniques to combat improvised explosive devices (IEDs).
Work on the reconfiguration activity will begin immediately and continue through to 2016.
