Saab has successfully completed the ground combat systems demonstration of its new Carl-Gustaf M4 weapon system at the Saab Bofors Test Centre in Karlskoga, Sweden.
The M4 model, which is an upgraded version of Saab’s combat proven Carl-Gustaf M3, is a man-portable shoulder-launched multirole weapon system, designed to provide users with flexible capability and agility in any scenario.
Saab product director and Swedish Army former infantry commander Ulf Eriksson said: "Its lightweight and shorter design, operational flexibility and high accuracy offer a truly powerful combination, not to mention it is as close to recoilless as you can get.
"The M4 has been developed as a response to the evolving needs of our customers and we were very pleased to show the new capabilities to such a distinguished audience."
Attended by nearly 120 guests from more than 20 countries, the demonstration featured a comprehensive series of successful firings against moving and static targets.
Weighing less than 7kg, the Carl-Gustaf M4 looks familiar to anyone acquainted with the earlier versions, and is claimed to be the logical next step for users who already have experience with the Carl-Gustaf system.
