Northrop Grumman has introduced a new secure communications system (SCS) product at the Military Communications and Information Systems (MiLCIS) Conference in Canberra, Australia.
Called SCS-400, the product has been developed under a contract with the Australian Army for its secure communications mobile platforms – land (SCMP-L) programme.
Northrop Grumman Australia chief executive Ian Irving said: "This latest product, developed in Australia by Northrop Grumman’s M5 unit, is a game changer for secure communications.
"We are pleased to deliver this indigenous capability to the Australian Army."
Weighing 15kg per module, the SCS-400 is a field-deployable system designed to provide deployed soldiers with secure connections to headquarters using commercially available connections, including 3G / 4G, high speed serial, BGan, Ethernet or WiFi, as well as external satellite.
Specifically, the system provides users simultaneous remote access to networks, ranging from highly classified to unclassified.

By GlobalDataThe ruggedised system can support more than 150 deployed personnel with a self-healing, self-forming internet-protocol (IP) meshed network in hostile environments, and uses any available IP bearer to securely connect devices.
In addition to providing voice communications, the system’s easy-to-use and remotely configurable touchscreen interface allows users to quickly and easily operate secure email and other systems.
It is up to 30 times smaller than previous generations and has a range of in-built cyber-security measures that detect suspicious and malicious activity and unauthorised connections.
The SCS-400 has a modular design incorporating user-accessible expansion slots and internal PCI-e mini cards, which provide rapid incorporation of new technologies and system upgrades for a wide range of communication scenarios.
