Aselsan has delivered a mobile border security system to the Uruguayan Army, which will be used to protect the country’s land and sea borders.
The system is part of a $3.7m contract awarded by the Uruguayan Army’s General Command in 2013 to support the Uruguay border monitoring system project (UBOMS).
Comprising sensors and other units, the Aselsan mobile border security system (ASUR Mobile) provides critical capabilities, such as target detection / recognition, target classification, multi / single target traction, target coordinate estimation and situational awareness of the tactical field on a digital map, namely geographical information system.
It features an advanced capability Aselsan radar (ACAR) ground surveillance radar and electro optical system, consisting of a thermal imager, day TV camera and a laser range finder, which enable the operator to conduct surveillance missions in all weather conditions, on a 24/7 basis.
Mounted in a telescopic mast on a Land Rover Defender, ACAR has a maximum range of up to 60km and can detect pedestrians at ranges up to 12km, Army Recognition reported.
ASUR Mobile’s sensors and other units are scheduled to be integrated into the Uruguayan Army’s vehicles and can be controlled and monitored by Aselsan Security SW in the vehicles.
