The US Government has reportedly requested major technological companies to assist in its efforts to counter online terrorism.
The government held a meeting with representatives from Twitter, Apple, Facebook and other Silicon Valley companies to discuss ideas on how extremist content online can be identified and removed, as well as help create alternative messages, reported Bloomberg.

White House Press Secretary Josh Earnest was quoted by media sources as saying: "The goal here is to find additional ways to work together to make it even harder for terrorists or criminals to find refuge in cyberspace."
The companies have been providing some voluntary assistance, including the removal of a Facebook page linked to the San Bernardino shootings in California that killed 14 people.
A memo obtained by the news agency read: "We are interested in exploring all options with you for how to deal with the growing threat of terrorists and other malicious actors using technology.
"Are there high-level principles we could agree on for working through these problems together? And are there technologies that could make it harder for terrorists to use the Internet to mobilise, facilitate, and operationalise?"
