AEWE

UK and US troops are working together to execute the Army Expeditionary Warrior Experiment (AEWE).

The British 3rd Battalion, the Rifles of the UK, and soldiers of A Company, 1st Battalion, 29th Infantry Regiment (Experimentation Force) collaborated with Maneuver Battle Lab to test new technology for future war-fighting tactics.

The AEWE aims to develop effective prototypes and concepts to facilitate small units for future modernisation. It was conducted at various training areas at Fort Benning, US, including the McKenna MOUT site.

The programme will also assist the US Army’s science and technology community in solving military problems.

"The significance of the British and the US troops working together was to see firsthand how each unit ‘fights the fight’."

EXFOR Company commander captain David Sammy said: "The significance of the British and the US troops working together was to see firsthand how each unit ‘fights the fight’ and learn how to fight together."

The British troops will learn US Army tactics during the programme.

316th Cavalry Brigade Scout section leader staff sergeant Ian Reid said: "We see what we can put in the force for future soldiers and it helps with their lethality and speed – everything that incorporates what every soldier needs to be.

"We are the bedrock to help them accomplish tasks to fight and destroy the enemy, and it all starts here with us."
