British defence company BAE Systems and Her Majesty’s Government’s Communications Centre (HMGCC) are set to host a live simulated cyber-attack at the Blue Fin building in London, UK, on 3 September.
The competition, which is being held alongside Cyber Security Challenge UK, will see 24 amateur contestants attempt to save a British telecoms company from a cyber-attack launched by a mysterious criminal hacking gang.
During the competition, the contestants will investigate hacked smartphones that were used to break into the communications network, before delivering their findings to a board of judges.
HMGCC and BAE will assess the candidates as they defend against the cyber terrorist, with an aim to offer jobs to the top performers.
Earlier this month, researchers from international cyber-security company Check Point noted that the Quadrooter security flaw could affect almost one billion Android handheld mobile devices.
This flaw could give attackers access to phones' data and hardware, including the camera.
