L-3 Communications has received a contract to supply a joint common remote viewing terminal (JCRVT) supporting the UK Ministry of Defence's (MoD) new communications programme.
The JCRVT will use L-3’s Tactical Network ROVER handheld transceivers and ROVER 6i transceivers to integrate key UK intelligence, surveillance, target acquisition and reconnaissance (ISTAR) platforms with strike capabilities and maritime platforms.

This capability will facilitate the exchange of intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance (ISR) information, such as full-motion video, across the battlespace through a wideband IP network.
L-3 Communications chairman and CEO Michael T. Strianese said: “We have broad expertise in this interoperable, advanced communications technology, which will be a key component of the British Land Forces and Royal Navy’s future communications programmes.
“The UK has always been a significant international market for L-3, and we look forward to expanding our partnerships and our footprint with new programme positions like JCRVT.”
Work under the $23.2m contract will be carried out by L-3 Communication Systems-West, which is part of the company's broadband communications segment.

The JCRVT solution is interoperable with current US and Nato ISTAR platforms, the recent UK AH-64 Apache E Block upgrade, and P-8 maritime patrol aircraft.
To date, more than 5,000 JCRVT systems have been delivered to customers worldwide.
