Safran Electronics & Defense has been contracted to supply its Sigma 30 artillery navigation and pointing system to an undisclosed foreign army.
Under the contract, the company will supply Sigma 30 systems for the army's mobile counter-battery radars, in order to help determine the precise location of enemy batteries.
Safran said that Sigma 30 has been designed to optimise the operational deployment of artillery units and their intelligence systems.
The navigation and pointing system is said to provide combat platforms with autonomous engagement capabilities, without requiring global positioning system (GPS) signals.
The shock-resistant solution can be integrated in the latest digital networks for artillery units, according to the company.
Based on Safran’s strapdown digital gyro technology, Sigma 30 can be used for a variety of artillery systems, such as howitzers, multiple rocket launchers, mortars and light guns.
