Czech aircraft company Aero Vodochody will continue to produce cockpits for Black Hawk helicopters, under an extended contract.

The latest extension will allow the company to provide fully equipped cockpits for UH-60M Black Hawk helicopters until 2023.

Aero Vodochody president Giuseppe Giordo said: “The Black Hawk programme is one of the strategic programmes in our aerostructures production.

“The extension of the contract for five more years is a sign of our reliability and also of our strong relationship with our customer.”

Aero said that it delivers the Black Hawk cockpits as a dual-source to Sikorsky Aircraft Corporation.

In 2010, the company was selected as a second-source supplier by Sikorsky and produced the first UH-60M Black Hawk helicopter cockpit in the Czech Republic in June 2011.

"The extension of the contract for five more years is a sign of our reliability and also of our strong relationship with our customer."

Featuring advanced digital avionics and a powerful propulsion system, the helicopter offers improved situational awareness and survivability.

The Black Hawk’s glass cockpit features fly-by-wire Common Avionics Architecture System (CAAS) and a digitised 1553 bus-based avionics suite.

In addition, Aero produces complete helicopter airframe ready for installation of dynamic parts for Sikorsky’s S-76 programme.

The company is also cooperating with Embraer on KC-390 programme and with Bombardier on CSeries aircraft programme.
