The US Defense Security Cooperation Agency has notified Congress of a potential foreign military sale of tube-launched, optically tracked, wireless-guided (TOW) missiles, equipment and support to the Government of Bahrain.
Under the estimated $21m sale, Bahrain has requested major defence equipment (MDE) that includes 107 TOW 2A, radio frequency (RF) missiles (BGM-71-4B-RF), 77 TOW 2B Aero, RF missiles (BGM-71F-Series) and 37 TOW Bunker Buster (BB), RF missiles (BGM-71-Fl-RF).
Approved by the US State Department, the request also includes technical and logistical support, as well as other associated equipment and services.
As part of the proposed sale, the US Government or contractor representatives will provide equipment de-processing / fielding and new equipment training in Bahrain.
Raytheon Missile Systems will serve as the principal contractor for the sale, which will help improve the security of a major non-Nato ally and also contribute to the US’s foreign policy and national security.
The missiles will be used by Bahrain to advance its efforts to develop an integrated ground defence capability, deter regional threats and boost homeland defence.
