The US Army has selected Raytheon to provide the next-generation Excalibur Ib 155mm precision-guided projectile’s design.
Under the $23m contract, Raytheon’s Excalibur Ib will use GPS technology to provide a first round, fire-for-effect capability and will also provide warfighters with life-saving options.
Raytheon Missile Systems president Taylor Lawrence said the projectile’s design would provide the warfighters with pinpoint precision capability to reduce collateral damage.
“Excalibur Ib is an affordable, reliable solution to the US Army’s need for precision artillery fire,” he said.
The delivery of the Excalibur Ib rounds is expected to take place in 2012.
