Vorsphere is a range of blast containment vessels designed by UK-based company Airolusion to mitigate the blast and fragmentation from IEDs, anti-personnel and anti-tank mines, mortars and Explosive Remnants of War (ERW). The Vorsphere is designed to be a portable, re-usable, cost effective, explosion proof apparatus which safely contains and removes explosive devices for subsequent detonation in safe environments. EXPLOSIVE BLAST MITIGATION Airolusion’s primary objectives in designing the Vorsphere were to produce a re-usable apparatus that would mitigate blasts and fragmentation from explosive devices without causing harm or damage to the environment. Airolusion wanted to ensure that the Vorsphere could be readily manufactured in a variety of sizes and could be designed to be made as a cost effective disposable unit or an indefinite re-usable tool. It also wanted to ensure that the apparatus did not need to be secured to the ground or a transport unit. BLAST MATERIAL AND TECHNOLOGY The Vorsphere is designed to be manufactured in metal or a composite material depending on its required application, field of operation, durability and intended longevity. It also minimises the use of high technology, enabling ease-of-manufacture and allow repairs to be undertaken in the field if necessary, as well as requiring minimal skill to transport and operate. IED AND MINEFIELD CLEARANCE TOOL The Vorsphere offers troops in the field a tool that will contain and remove IEDs efficiently and cost effectively, preventing casualties or damage to property. The Vorsphere is also designed to be environmentally friendly by ensuring no trace of explosive contaminant remains to pollute the surrounding flora of fauna. This proves invaluable for IED or mine clearance operations in arable areas or communities, where more traditional EOD methods may cause damage to crops or livestock, and might delay inhabitants from returning to normal life. EXPLOSIVE REMNANTS OF WAR REMOVAL The Vorsphere can also be utilised in humanitarian EOD operations, such as clearing or containing an area in which explosive remnants of war such as live shells, grenades or bomblets may pose a threat to the local populace. By securing and removing a threat quickly and effectively, the Vorsphere allows EOD workers to clear an area rapidly and safely. BLAST CONTAINMENT The Vorsphere also has a range of applications outside of immediate military use. These include transportation of volatile or explosive materials, securing of suspect packages or mail, and secure "bins" for use at security checkpoints. Airolusion can design bespoke Vorsphere solutions upon client request.
